Tokyo’s Akihabara district, located around the railway station of the same name, is also called the “Electric City”. It is best known for its quirky vacation spots such as maid cafes and cosplay bars, which many tourists want to visit, as these kinds of attractions are unlikely to be seen outside of Japan.
It is in Akihabara that you can learn more about the otaku culture. There are also underground bars, theaters and clubs in the area. It is also a great place to shop if you are looking for a new outfit with the latest Japanese fashion.
Despite the fact that Akihabara is officially part of Taito County, the quarter known to most people as Akihabara (including the station of the same name) is actually called Soto Kanda, part of Chiyoda County.
Akihabara is best known as one of the largest shopping areas on earth for electronics, computing, anime, and otaku goods, including new and used goods. New goods are mainly found on the main street of Chuodori, while old and used ones are found in the back streets of Soto Kanda 3-chome.
Moreover, everyone here finds something of their own. For example, here you can visit just a grandiose arcade hall – an eight-story complex stuffed with arcade slot machines from Taito Station, Sega Club, etc. The first floor is occupied by classic UFO Catcher – slot machines with prizes that need to be retrieved using a special mechanism. The top floor houses a variety of multiplayer slot machines with a sports bias (horse races, football, etc.).
